Long Term Fast Weight Loss – Is It Realistic?

I get asked about this on a regular basis and having spent time trying to it both ways I can comfortably say “yes” to that question.  However, that doesn’t mean that I feel it is the right way to go about doing it.  Sure, if you want to lose weight fast, you can, but will you maintain the weight loss you achieved?   “Maybe” is the best answer I could give you.

When I have gone the fast weight loss route in the past, I lost weight no problem.  Losing 30 lbs. in a couple of months was not too hard.  Problem is, I never maintained it for more than a year.  I became another victom of the yo-yo diet problem.  Each time I lost weight, I would eventually gain even more back and before I knew it ended up weighing 275 lbs., diabetic, on large amounts of cholesterol medications, and down right ill for the most part.

Slow, methodical weight loss is the correct answer.  One pound a week is your goal.  This does a lot of things for you I believe.  First you are “retraining” your body to be thin and not forcing it to be so and I believe this is the absolute key to long term successful weight loss and maintenance.  Second, you are setting realistic goals that most people can reach and maintain.

The diet you follow is less important to me than the diet you “can stick with”.  You are changing your life and it’s important that you find something that you will enjoy being on a year or two years from now.  Dieting isn’t something you do just to lose weight and then go back to your old habits and expect not to go back to being overweight again.  It simply won’t work.

You are creating a lifestyle for yourself and must find ways to do this for the rest of your life if you intend to maintain it.  Exercise must become something you do because you enjoy it and not simply because you need to.  And you will.

Most of us fat people think that exercise is some kind of cruel punishment that we must do if we are going to lose weight and that is true.  But…as you become more fit and trim, you will find that you enjoy exercise and even look forward to it!  Yes you will, believe me!  You will eventually find yourself feeling so much better that you actually look forward to how you feel when you exercise.

Get started today.  It’s never too soon to become a thinner new you and leave the fat person behind just “one pound ago”.  You will thank yourself over and over.
